Progressive
Providing traditional Jewish end-of-life rituals and support for the greater Chicago area, in an inclusive, progressive environment
The Progressive Chevra Kadisha Chicago (PCK) is a volunteer organization dedicated to providing traditional Jewish end-of-life rituals and support in an inclusive, progressive environment.
We are comprised primarily of members of six Jewish communities: Beth Emet the Free Synagogue, Beth Shalom Bnai Zaken Ethiopian Hebrew Congregation, Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation, Lomdim Chavurah, Mah Tovu Congregation, and Mishkan Chicago.
We honor the deceased and comfort the living through the traditional Jewish practice of taharah (ritual washing), while embracing progressive values of inclusivity, accessibility and continuous education.
We strive to serve individuals and families across all Jewish denominations and backgrounds in the greater Chicago area.

By treating the deceased with dignity and respect, we honor the deceased and provide comfort to bereaved families.
We are a diverse network of trained volunteers who serve all Jews regardless of background, affiliation, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
We honor ancient practices while meeting modern needs by sharing knowledge about Jewish end-of-life traditions and providing opportunities for ongoing learning to our volunteers.
